Dream Sequence of a non-future -

In December 2015 a performance of the script written by Emilio Barrarecan for the film La Libertad y La Maquina was performed by the Theatre Basel at the Critial Media Lab as part of the 'Community in Progress' Series - Directed by Kevin Rittberger.

Set in the fictional city of Mainframe city 360 - this project combines Script- writing, performance, history, speculation and critique to use past and future speculations in order to consider present day dilemmas.

Within the scenario, the conversation details tensions that arise when trying to affect change with new technological and political ideas. Each character addresses specific hopes or fears about the outcomes of a cybernetic and political combination. Developed through workshops with designers, scientists actors and dramaturges, through a of a process of debate, discussion and role play. The work is situated within an  ongoing research into Project Cybersyn (Chile 1971-73) which sees characters re-used and developed in a number of projects, scripts or outcomes that are routed in the design of both performance and representation.

An abridged version of the script and new scenography was developed from discussions and workshops at the IXDM / Critial media Lab between a mixed group of artists, designers, academics and activists. The performance also included a computer graphic produced in the 1990's for the original archive.
